World Tour at the Vallican Whole Community Centre on January 20 at 7:30 PM.   \n\n\n\nThe show will feature a selection of Cromoli Classics including The Rich\, Dear Mary I’m in a Gang Now\, Pilot Talk\, Cover Song\,  Shot in the Dark\, and Nude Beach with a sprinkling of new material\, all chosen by you\, the audience. No two shows are the same! A creation of local performer and playwright Lucas Myers\, The Cromoli Brothers Experience inhabits the realm between the poignant\, the political and the absurd\, with original tunes on harmonium\, glockenspiel and ukulele. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, December 17 the Grassroots Grammas will be joining the VALLICAN WHOLE COMMUNITY CHOIR’S ANNUAL CONCERT and sing-along with refreshments and the boutique where you’re sure to find any last-minute gifts you may need.   \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAll proceeds from the sales go to support the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign. The AIDS pandemic took the lives of nearly an entire generation in Africa which left children without parents and African grandmothers stepped in to care for them. Since forming in 2010\, Slocan Valley Grassroots Grammas have raised over $80K in support of their African friends.

SUMMARY:Throat Singing Workshop w/ Arrington De Dionyso
DESCRIPTION:The Slocan Valley Community Arts Council is bringing multi-disciplinary artist & performer Arrington De Dionyso for an experiential throat singing workshop!   \n\n\n\nParticipants will receive instruction in extended techniques used by contemporary musicians and sound poets\, while gaining awareness of multiphonics as practiced in a number of traditional and experimental settings\, with special emphasis on Tuvan\, Mongolian\, and Siberian throat singing.  \n\n\n\nInstruction in these enriching techniques will be accompanied by discussion of aesthetic concerns related to the musical cultures covered. Participants will leave the workshop with an enhanced understanding of the expressive capacity of the voice across cultures\, and the tools to expand their own voices beyond everyday speaking and singing.

DESCRIPTION:The beloved Locavore’s Feast is back!\nA community potluck and thanksgiving where we share in the abundance of local food and community\, the Locavore’s Feast is a long and much-loved tradition at the Vallican Whole.\n \nOn Saturday\, October 8th\, all are welcome to join for a bounteous dinner\, followed by “Six Slocan Minutes”\, an almost-anything-goes open mic. There will also be a live Pie Auction\, where you can bid on beautiful pastries made by local bakers and makers.\n \nAdmission is a generous dish to share\, made of local-as-you-can ingredients. Cash donations to the Vallican Whole are also much appreciated. There will be alcohol for sale\, as well as a special seasonal mocktail.\n \nThis event is generously sponsored by the Kootenay Co-op Grocery Store\, and brought to you by the Vallican Whole Community Centre.\n \nWe would love and appreciate volunteers! DESCRIPTION:Come together and create stories through play. Explore strange possibilities as a new character. Laugh together! \nRoleplaying games are a form of collaborative\, creative play. They use rules and structure to make telling a story together less scary. Every game works a little bit differently – some take us into light-hearted comedy\, while others give rise to serious\, transformative drama. \nThis is a monthly event! We’ll offer a variety of game options\, and encourage you to bring something to run if you’re a seasoned player. \nDinner menu still to be decided. Any requests? \nFOOD AND CHILDCARE \nThis is a beginner-friendly event for ages 14 and up. It takes place at the Vallican Whole (3762 Little Slocan South Rd). Entry is by donation (suggested $5-10). Dinner is included\, with vegan & gluten-free options. Let us know your dietary restrictions! The evening is hosted by Avery (Avery Alder) – feel free to message her if you have any questions. \nChildcare provided by Milo (Alea Milo). After dinner\, Milo will take the kids downstairs to play\, read books\, and hang out. DESCRIPTION:Carnivores eat meat\, Locavores eat Local! \nSaturday\, February 8th\, The Rural Alternatives Research & Training Society is hosting its Winter Locavore Feast at the Vallican Whole Community Centre. \nCome celebrate our local food growing\, cooking and eating\, as well as our wonderful & sometimes unusual talents\, and gather with all. Doors open at 5 PM\, dinner is at 6\, and figure out what you are going to do for Six Slocan Valley Minutes starting at 7 PM. (There will be a supervised creative arts workshop in the basement for children\, starting at 6:30 PM). \nSo bring a generous Potluck Dish made with as many local ingredients as possible (meat is ok\, but mark your dishes with ingredients) and come out at 5\, dinner at 6\, and Six Slocan Valley Minutes at 7. This is where all who want to get up on the stage and share almost anything they want to for no more than 6 minutes…could be a poem or a story\, a rant\, a song\, or a lesson. Two once took apart a chain saw and put it back together in six minutes\, others made Pesto\, one man taught his child to rub two sticks together to make fire… watch out for the Hook! Operated partly by the children of the community. \nThere will also be a Silent Auction with interesting objects\, antique and new\, an exceptional set of motorcycle leathers for some lucky woman\, services\, amazing books\, artwork\, pottery\, chotchkes and large gift baskets all donated by Kootenay businesses and individuals to support the work of RARTS and the Vallican Whole Community Centre\, as well as to celebrate the Local Food Movement of the Kootenays and those who grow our food and work the land. \nThere will be a fabulous meal\, great laughter\, fun for children and theatre as only we as a community can make together.
